23 April – The birth and death of William Shakespeare, the Bard

Today is the anniversary of the traditional birthdate of William Shakespeare on 23rd April 1564, and also the anniversary of his death on 23rd April 1616.

In this “on this day in Tudor history” video, I share some facts about the Bard, along with a few phrases from his works that have become part of common parlance.

I think that today we all need to try and get a Shakespeare quote or word into our conversations!

And here are some photos I took on my visit to Shakespeare’s birthplace and Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon, the church where Shakespeare was baptised on 26th April 1564 and his resting place. His wife, Anne Hathaway, and daughter Susannah Hall (and her husband Dr John Hall) are also buried there.
